Bungie has also been looking to include some balance changes to Destiny 2 alongside the release of the new expansion. The Void 3.0 update brings the first of many changes being brought about to Destiny 2’s elemental subclasses. Yet, while there is plenty of upcoming updates and already released content for Destiny 2, it seems that Bungie is already looking towards its next step. Some Destiny fans may be disappointed to see that Bungie’s next title could be a departure from the hit sci-fi setting.

Recent job listings at Bungie indicate that the studio behind Halo and Destiny may be looking towards a new IP. A Lead AI Engineer position refers to an upcoming unannounced project, though the real indicator that this unannounced project is not a Destiny sequel is in the job description, which discusses candidates helping Bungie to create its “next enduring game IP.” There are currently a multitude of positions open at the Destiny 2 developer, again indicating that Bungie could be coming up with something new.

Though it may not be another Destiny game, it seems Bungie’s unannounced project will have similarities with the studios’ previous titles. According to various listings, the game will have “scalable online services,” indicating that it will be a live-service game, rather than anything entirely different from Destiny. This means that Bungie could be borrowing much from the Destiny 2 format, and creating a new setting to fit that style of gameplay.

With Sony recently making an offer to purchase Bungie, the investment from the PlayStation platform owner likely involved the production of a new project by the Destiny developer. While Destiny 2 will remain available on Xbox and PC, there’s a likelihood that this new IP or unannounced project could end up as a Sony exclusive due to the recent purchase. Only time will tell what this project will be, though it seems Bungie isn’t straying too far from what it knows.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
